the BRUT series began as a personal material investigation — experimenting with foil and epoxy until a surprising sculptural capacity revealed itself. and as wendell castle once said: “if it’s upbeat or surprising, it’s probably useful.”
the most compelling aspect of this process is its sense of empowerment — the way it invites pure self-expression and playful exploration. in that sense, it strongly echoes the concept of art brut: raw, intuitive creation by untrained hands, where maker and material are in constant dialogue. what concept could better describe this approach than art brut itself? hence the name of the series.
another reason this process captivates is its transformation of something so easily discarded — almost a symbol of disposability in today’s society — into something grande and shiny. this act of material appropriation offers a second life, a more lasting and perhaps more meaningful purpose.
