two parts of the studio. one intimate journey.
in the world of ultimo intimo, there’s a clear distinction between series and collections.

series are the product of the studio’s lab work — ongoing material and process explorations. they’re how new forms, textures, materials, and methods are developed. this is where the studio’s form language takes shape — the how behind the vision.

collections are the bigger picture — shaped by emotion, reflection, and narrative.
each one explores a complex theme from the realm of the human experience: what it means to be alive, to change, to long, to belong. collections are developed once a year and unveiled in an immersive presentation during dutch design week, where the space itself becomes part of the work.

series are the how.
collections are the why.

together, they form the rhythm of ultimo intimo.

about the PRISM collection

meet ultimo intimo’s debut furniture collection: the PRISM collection — a family of geometric, minimal aluminum furniture. like a prism with its many facets, each piece in the collection is unique – from soft curves to sharp angles, offering a distinct perspective on form and identity.

the PRISM collection was unveiled at ultimo intimo’s solo-show PRISM OF SELF during dutch design week 2024 at sectie-c. PRISM OF SELF reflects founder charlotte kammerer’s belief that the objects we choose to surround ourselves with are not just functional but deeply personal. they reveal the layers of who we are: our aspirations, our past, and the stories we want to tell about ourselves.

set within an immersive installation, the space was draped entirely in reflective aluminum fabric, transforming the room into a world of light and mirrors. with mirror-polished furniture, a freestanding mirror totem, and a mesmerizing soundscape, visitors were invited on an experiential journey, exploring how reflections — literal and symbolic — reveal the complexity of identity.

this living room of reflection inspired visitors to ask: what do the objects in my own home say about me?

about PRISM OF SELF

under the exhibition title PRISM OF SELF, ultimo intimo debuted its first furniture collection – the PRISM collection – at dutch design week 2024.

set within a multisensory, immersive installation, visitors entered a bold yet introspective world shaped by experimental soundscapes and the lingering scent of incense. at the center stood a fragmented mirror totem, casting diffused reflections and anchoring the dream-like, otherworldly atmosphere.

the mirror totem embodied the exhibition’s core idea: humans are like prisms — fractured, layered, and multi-sided. our homes reflect these inner facets, whether private or public, past or becoming.
show me your house, and i’ll tell you who you are.

PRISM OF SELF invited visitors to experience design as storytelling — where objects become extensions of the self.

about the TRÜMMER collection

TRÜMMER is the first chapter of ultimo intimo’s autobiographical trilogy, METAMORPHOSIS: an intimate exploration of transformation, identity, and the inner journey. inspired by carl jung’s journey of individuation and psychological alchemy, it translates the abstract processes of the psyche into tangible, poetic forms.

as a collection, TRÜMMER captures the moment when life – and with it our sense of self – begins to crumble. it embodies the nigredo phase: the falling apart, the ego death, the dark night of the soul. grief, heaviness, and death are its prevailing forces, and this is reflected in the materials: all pieces are black, heavy, rough, and raw. the textures mirroring the emotional weight of the collection: hard, oppressive, fierce, and at times violent. every choice was deliberate, a polymath approach: materials, techniques, and forms were selected to express the essence of the concept in its truest form. burnt black wood speaks of rupture and violence; black matter consuming the vanity conveys aggression, vulnerability, and helplessness; antiqued mirror reflects the passage of time and rock-like surfaces reference the idea of hitting rock bottom.

the collection unfolds as a narrative within a narrative. the pieces – from the vanity, through the memorial bench, to the cave wall – trace the path of inner collapse, mourning, and finally, remembrance. together, they create a progression of the self: the sacrifice of identity, the intimate acknowledgment of what has been lost, and the gentle embrace of memory as a source of renewal.

presented during dutch design week 2025 in an immersive, multi-sensory solo exhibition at ultimo intimo’s studio in sectie-c, TRÜMMER created a space to inhabit the intensity of transformation — a poetic, material manifestation of inner collapse, memory, and the fragile threshold before renewal.

vanity, 2025.

vanity
, as part of ultimo intimo’s second furniture collection named TRÜMMER, was unveiled during dutch design week 2025.

ALTARE ANIMAE LAPSA
altar of the fallen soul

in the dark night of the soul,
the self is sacrificed on the altar of ruin,
so that another may be born.
black matter consumed
who we no longer are,
leaving us free to become.

vanity marks the beginning of TRÜMMER. it embodies the moment when life – and with it the sense of self – begins to fracture and crumble. the persona once claimed no longer fits; the reflection feels unfamiliar. this is the onset of the dark night of the soul. the vanity’s antiqued mirror speaks of time passing. its clouded surface suggests distance: what once was now feels far away, almost belonging to another life. ego sacrificium is carved into the mirror as a quiet, irreversible act. the ego – which is our sense of self – is not violently destroyed, but consciously surrendered. the black matter consumes who we believed ourselves to be, with its roles, projections and expectations, until nothing recognizable remains. this is the necessary first act of TRÜMMER: the ego must die and the old life it inhabited is sacrificed.

memorial bench, 2025.

memorial bench
, as part of ultimo intimo’s second furniture collection named TRÜMMER, was unveiled during dutch design week 2025.

IN MEMORIAM MEI RELICTI
in memory of my former self

a place to sit and mourn the self that is no more,
the dreams that never came to be.
the places left behind,
the voices that once filled them with meaning,
the souls and objects lost to time and distance.
sit here and rest with the absence,
honoring all that shall not return.

memorial bench is the second piece in the narrative of TRÜMMER. it references the benches of the swiss alps, often dedicated to the memory of those who have been lost. but where can we sit to remember ourselves – our past selves? this bench is for one. a burnt and charred plank of wood seems to float between two large, black rocks. on the plank, aged metal lettering, worn and beginning to dissolve, reads in memoriam mei relicti, a latin phrase meaning “in memory of my former self.” it is a quiet act of acknowledgment: honoring the self that once was, and making space for the self yet to come.

cave wall
, as part of ultimo intimo’s second furniture collection named TRÜMMER, was unveiled during dutch design week 2025.

MEMORIAE IN SAXO SCRIPTAE
memories  written in stone

traces of a life once lived,
forevere carved in stone.

the rock remembers when all else is gone –
a shrine of eternal memories.

cave wall is the third and final piece of TRÜMMER. it marks the place reached after collapse, after remembering, after mourning what was lost. this is the final act of letting go, so that one may embrace the new. it is a shrine of memories, not grieving the past, but cherishing it with warmth and gratitude. because nothing that has truly mattered ever disappears. it remains, carried within us, living on as memory. this final work closes TRÜMMER with quiet hope. memory becomes a refuge rather than a wound, giving us the courage to step out of the darkness of the dark night of the soul  and into the first, gentle light of dawn – the beginning of the next chapter of METAMORPHOSIS: AURORA. stay tuned.
